At our nursery, play is at the heart of everything we do. You may often see your child building, painting, pretending, singing or exploring outdoors—and it might look like “just play.”
In fact, play is one of the most powerful ways young children learn.
Why learning through play?
Children learn best when they are actively involved, curious, and enjoying themselves. Through play, children explore the world around them in a natural and meaningful way. It allows them to make choices, solve problems, ask questions, and use their imagination—all of which are essential skills for lifelong learning.
It takes the brain 400+ repetitions to learn a new skill. Through play, it only takes 20.
The benefits of learning through play include:
Supports brain development: Play helps children develop thinking skills such as memory, concentration, and problem-solving.
Builds language and communication: Talking with friends, role-playing, singing songs, and storytelling all help children expand their vocabulary and confidence in speaking.
Encourages social skills: Through play, children learn how to share, take turns, cooperate, and understand others’ feelings.
Develops physical skills: Activities like climbing, running, drawing, and building strengthen both large and small muscles and improve coordination.
Boosts confidence and independence: When children try new things in play, they learn to take risks, make decisions, and feel proud of their achievements.
Supports emotional wellbeing: Play helps children express their feelings, manage emotions, and feel happy and secure in their environment.
We carefully plan play experiences based on each child’s interests and developmental stage, ensuring that learning is happening every day in a fun, supportive, and nurturing way.
Our nursery environment is an invitation, a provocation for such play. We provide the scene, it is our children that decide how to make use of it.
